Quotes to Live By #1

I got a bunch of quotes from a friend :) which has inspired me to start a weekly "Quotes to live by" post to serve as motivation. The quotes will be both photography and non-photography related and will act as motivation and perhaps even food for thought.

Here's this week's quote - although a little late it still counts :) -

"Never compare your journey with someone else's. It's a marathon with no finish line. Someone else may start out faster than you, may seem to progress more quickly than you, but every runner has his own pace. Your journey is your journey, not a competition. You will never "arrive". No one ever does. - unknown".

60mm macro lens review

So i recently purchased a macro lens - I was torn between the Nikkor 60mm f2.8 and 105mm f2.8. The 60mm lens is a cheaper lens with a shorter focal length than the 105mm i.e with the 105mm, you can stand at more of a distance from your object and still capture it in macro (12 inches of room on the 105mm versus only 8inches on the 60mm). Both lenses however focus down to 1:1.

With my focus mainly on weddings i decided to go with the 60mm for the following reasons:

1. Since I'm not photographing moving objects, i don't mind the shorter focal length. (I won't be scaring any rings or flowers away by being too close LOL)
2. I also decided to save the approx. $300 difference in price between both lenses cos I would only be using the macro for specific detail shots (I'm going to see how it does as a portrait lens though  as i have read some good reviews) and i can put the extra cash towards my wishlist items - the D700 and a new FX lens :)

I tried out this lens at home on some of my random jewelry in bright natural light and this lens is as sharp as a razor! I could see every nook and cranny on my stuff haha. However, the image below is a from a recent wedding i photographed under different lighting conditions and without flash - it was a darker room with the blinds drawn and i was on a bit of a time crunch but i think the 60mm did a pretty good job.

I do need a lot more practice using it to see what this lens can really do but here's my shot for now.

I hope this review has been useful! I personally love the 60mm and will be posting more macro  shots from it soon.
